Security contracts are usually judged by visible measures. Were the shifts covered? Did patrols arrive? Was an incident handled properly?

Supplier due diligence matters too. The Home Office received 23,411 referrals of potential victims of modern slavery in 2025, 22% more than in 2024. These were referrals rather than confirmed cases, but they show why labour standards cannot be treated as someone else's responsibility.

Reducing procurement and reputational risk
If a supplier's environmental claims are vague, its workforce practices are unclear or its reporting cannot be evidenced, the risk can affect your tender responses, customer relationships, reputation and confidence in your ESG reporting.
Independent standards do not remove the need for questions. They do, however, show that systems and performance have been assessed beyond the provider's own marketing claims.
